What better way to modernize the room than to take the can lights down and put in pendants? Have you been to a lighting store lately to see how many pendant lights are available? Trust me, it’s overwhelming. That was probably the hardest part of the project. My wife and I had to agree on pendant lights – not an easy task.
Installing the Pendants
Here’s where my fear set in. I was going to do electric work? Scary. But in reality, it wasn’t scary. To install the pendant lights, all I had to do was unscrew the can lightbulbs and measure how far down I wanted the pendants to sit.
My company mostly does commercial work and walls, so cabinets was pretty new to me. Luckily, I have a buddy who is a painter in Palos Heights and does cabinets all the time, so I leaned on him a lot.
Plan the right time. I have gotten lucky with my dumpster rental company in Aurora and typically get my bin the same day. During busier times, you may have to schedule it out a bit. Think about what you’ll have to work around to get the dumpster in the right place. Parking can be an issue, especially if you have a small driveway, so consider that too.
Look, some people take this project on themselves, but I don’t recommend it because hardware store products aren’t as high quality as the commercial products professionals use and the end result turns out much better with industrial-grade equipment. So, in the end, I hired a bathtub refinishing company in Elmhurst to do this for me.
Cleaning the outside of your home? What? Who has time for that? I had these same thoughts, trust me. But then when I took a close look at my siding, I knew what had to be done. I did some research to make sure I was doing it right because power washing is very powerful, […]
Are you tired of the look of your bathroom tiles? I was too. But, the problem is that they were in good condition. I didn’t see a need to tear them all down and start over. So what was I to do? I stumbled across a neat tutorial that made me think. You can paint […]
I’m sure you’ve seen wainscoting before – it’s quite the trend. Even as a painter, I love the look of wainscoting. Of course, the top half of the wall should be properly painted. That’s my specialty, wainscoting wasn’t, but I wanted to know how to do it and to transform my dining room, so that’s […]
Paint changes everything, right? Okay, yes I’m a painter so I’m a little biased, but it’s true; so much so that I decided to paint my wooden staircase. It had seen better days and I wanted a change. I didn’t realize just how much just a few coats of paint could really change things, but […]
Are you thinking of painting your kitchen? I want to caution you before you start. It’s a big project, probably one of the biggest you’ll undertake in your home. The kitchen is the hub of your home; it’s where you cook, eat, and converse. When it’s torn apart and it will get torn apart, you […]
Are you tired of the same look in your bathroom, but don’t want to spend the big bucks remodeling it? I didn’t either, but my wife and I were tired of the look in our guest bathroom. It was originally decorated for the kids, but they have since grown and moved on with their own […]
Are you looking for a simple way to spruce up a room? I have recently fallen in love with woodworking and I stumbled across the beauty of crown molding. I always knew it existed, of course, but I didn’t realize just how much it could spruce up a room. It’s not that hard to do […]
Are you remodeling a room in your home? You’ve probably thought about whether you should gut it or not, right? I had the same thoughts. I have renovated four rooms in my home in the past year. It’s become my hobby. Now that my kids are grown, I have a lot more time on my […]
